INTERVISTA AD ALI MCNAMARA- INTERVIEWS TO ALI MCNAMARA FOR ITALIAN READERS

Hello readers! Finalmente oggi vi farò leggere l'intervista che ho avuto l'opportunità di fare ad Ali McNamara. Riuscire a mettermi in contatto è stato abbastanza arduo, data comunque la sua fama. Ma per fortuna l'email che ho lasciato sul suo website è stata visualizzata e presa in considerazione. Colazione da Darcy, Il piccolo negozio di fiori in riva al mare, Innamorarsi a Notting Hill, sono solo alcuni dei titoli che ha pubblicato qui in Italia, con la stimata casa editrice Newton Compton editori. Proprio da poco è arrivata la traduzione di uno dei suoi ultimi romanzi "Colazione in riva al mare" che già sta spopolato sul web. Ma siete curiosi di sapere di più riguardo l'autrice?
Nuovi romanzi in arrivo per noi, storie per bambini, fasi di scrittura e i suoi esordi. Vi ho già incuriositi? Questi sono solo alcuni dei temi di cui abbiamo parlato! Vi lascio qui l'intervista tradotta in Italiano, mentre più in basso vi allego la conversazione originale, in inglese. :)

Hello readers! Finally, today, I will read the interview I had the opportunity to do to Ali McNamara. But are you curious to know more about the author? New novels coming for us, children stories, writing phases and her debuts. Have I already curious you? These are just some of the themes we talked about!

1.     Quando hai iniziato a scrivere? Parlarci un po’ del tuo primo esordio.

R. Non avevo mai pensato di scrivere romanzi fino a quando non ho scritto una fan fiction sul cantante Ronan Keating, nel 2002. Le tre storie che ho scritto erano così popolari che le vendevo come allegati di posta elettronica e raccolsi oltre 2.000 euro per un’opera di carità di consapevolezza sul cancro.  Allora pensavo, se le persone amano ciò che sto scrivendo, forse dovrei andare a scrivere un vero romanzo!

2.     Scarlett O’Brien è la protagonista di “Innamorarsi a Notting Hill” “Da New York a Notting Hill per innamorarsi ancora” “Colazione a Notting Hill” ti rivedi in lei? Se è si, in quali aspetti?

R. Assomiglio molto a Scarlett in quanto sono una grande sognatrice e penso sempre che qualcosa di eccitante sia proprio dietro l'angolo!

3.     Hai mai pensato di scrivere un libro che non sia un romance, magari un fantasy o horror?

R. Vorrei scrivere una serie di libri per bambini, e sono attualmente in fase di scrittura della prima storia. Non so se saranno mai pubblicati ... lo spero!

4.     Raccontaci un po’ delle fasi che portano alla stesura del tuo romanzo.

R. Tutti seguono lo stesso schema. Per prima cosa inizio con la pianificazione e con numerose ricerche. Poi scrivo una prima bozza e la rivedo fin quando non va bene. Poi la invio al mio editore, che lo leggerà e poi mi invierà le sue note che poi lavorerò. Dopo di che il copy-editor (colui che prepara il testo alla pubblicazione) la legge, e poi più lavoro per me facendo le altre correzioni! Dopo viene svolta una prova di lettura, prima di avere una lettura finale.

5.     Quali sensazioni hai provato sapendo che i tuoi romanzi sarebbero stati tradotti in italiano?

R. È incredibile pensare che i miei libri siano letti in tutto il mondo. I miei lettori italiani sono alcuni dei miei lettori più entusiasti!

6.     Hai in mente di scrivere un altro romanzo? Puoi svelarci qualche curiosità?

R. In Italia, il mio prossimo libro che uscirà sarà l'estate di Serendipity, questa nuova storia è impostata in Irlanda, ma faranno apparizione alcuni dei personaggi di colazione da Darcy fanno apparizione, anche se non saranno i protagonisti.

7.     Qual è il segreto per essere un’autrice di successo?

R. Scrivere storie che ti piacerebbe leggere e continuare a scrivere. Poche parole ogni giorno, presto aggiungeranno ad un romanzo tutto!

8.     Quale dei tuoi romanzi ti rappresenta di più?

R. C'è un po 'di me in tutte le mie storie!

9.     Cosa rappresenta per te la scrittura? Parlaci un po’ di Ali.

R. Sono figlia unica, quindi mi divertivo creando storie per i miei giocattoli, quando ero piccola. Scrivere adesso, come un adulto, è solo un'estensione di quella immaginazione infantile!

1. When did you start writing? Talk to us about your first debut.

R.I had never thought about writing novels until I wrote some fan fiction on the singer Ronan Keating’s website back in 2002. The three stories I wrote were so popular I sold them as email attachments and raised over 2,000 euro for a cancer awareness charity.

 It was then I thought, if people like what I’m writing this much, maybe I should have a go at writing a real novel!

2. Scarlett O'Brien is the protagonist of " Innamorarsi a Notting Hill” “Da New York a Notting Hill per innamorarsi ancora” “Colazione a Notting Hill”  do you reflect in Scarlet? In what aspects?

R. I’m a lot like Scarlett in that I’m a big dreamer, and I always think something exciting is right around the corner!

3. Did you ever thought about writing a book that is not a romance, maybe a fantasy or horror?

R. I’d like to write a series of children’s books, and I’m currently in the process of writing the first story. I don’t know whether they will ever be published… I hope so!

4.Tell us some of the phases that lead to the writing of your novel.

R. They all follow the same pattern. Lots of research and planning first. Then I write a first draft, which I go through myself a few times until I’m happy. Then I send it to my editor, who will read it and then send me her notes which I then work on. After that a copy-editor reads it, and then more work for me doing corrections! Then its proof read, before I have a final read through.

5. What sensations did you feel knowing that your novels would be translated into Italian?

R. It’s amazing to think my books are being read around the world. My Italian readers are some of my most enthusiastic readers!

6. Do you writing another novel? Can you reveal some curiosity?

R. In Italy, your next book from me will be The Summer of Serendipity, this new story is set in Ireland, but some of the characters from Breakfast at Darcy’s make an appearance, although the main story is not about them.

7. What is the secret to being a successful author?

R. Write stories you would like to read yourself, and keep writing. A few words every day soon add up to a whole novel!

8. Which of your novels represents you the most?

R. There’s a little bit of me in all my stories!

9. What is your writing for you? Tell us about Ali.

R. I’m an only child, so I kept myself amused by making up stories for my toys when I was little. Writing now as an adult is just an extension of that childhood imagination!
